Susan Garrison, CHCA, CHC, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-H, PCS, FCS, CPAR currently holds the positions of Executive Vice President of Med Law Advisors, Inc., Executive Vice President of Magnus Confidential, Inc. and Executive Director of the Association of Health Care Auditors and Educators (AHCAE).
Susan Garrison is one of those rare people who can say she is a consultant, speaker, auditor, educator, and author. In her role as Executive Vice President for Med Law Advisors, Inc. and Magnus Confidential, Inc., she has attracted clients including solo practicing physicians, large teaching facilities, free standing Ambulatory Surgery Centers, hospitals, national associations, publishers, and over 100 other leading facilities and affiliated organizations. Susan serves on the board of directors of the Association of Health Care Auditors and Educators (AHCAE). Maxine has more than twenty years of experience in medical practice management, adult education and general business. She has taught courses at various levels, including teaching business communications and accounting at Midwestern State University in Texas. Maxine has extensive experience teaching administrative and clinical personnel essential medical office skills such as medical terminology, CPT and ICD-9 coding, reimbursement, OSHA, and HIPAA compliance. She is adept at personnel management, government rules and regulations, accounting and budgeting. Additionally, her experience with practice marketing and development make her a knowledgeable and much sought-after practice management resource.
Maxine has served as an administrator of a multi-specialty clinic, where she was responsible for all clinic operations including medical records, billing and collections, OSHA, HIPAA and Medicare compliance, and all accounting operations. She also has experience in medical practice consulting, and has successfully launched multiple practices.
Maxine holds a MBA in business from Midwestern State University, and is presently working toward a doctorate in Health Care Administration. She is also a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Medical Coder.
Maxine is currently on the faculty at Practice Management Institute (PMI) and has been a trainer with them for eight years. PMI has been around for 25 years providing practice management training for doctors and their staff. Our classes address every area of practice management from advanced coding and reimbursement topics to customer service and financial management.
PMI currently offers three certifications: one for coders, one for reimbursement professionals, and a third for office managers. In all, PMI has certified 15,000 medical office professionals. Their exam is probably the best tool out there to measure coding competency. It's proctored only in a live environment. But unlike other coding exams, PMI's is not multiple-choice so the answer is not sitting right there in front of you. The Certified Medical Coder credential is recognized by CMS in the Medicare Modernization Act.

Mrs. Kathleen J. Young is the CEO of Resolutions Billing & Consulting, Inc. She is a co-founder in the company with her husband Dan, daughter Cari, and son-in-law Kevin McCormick. After successfully building other billing companies, Mrs. Young, along with her husband and family, decided in 2003 to create their own company with distinctive core values. These core values are Respect, Integrity, Competency and Humility. The company motto is “Raising the standards of medical billing.”
Mrs. Young has achieved many certifications, including Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC.) From 2003 to 2006 Mrs. Young was an instructor for the Medical Association of Billers (MAB) as a Certified Medical Billing Specialist-Instructor (CMBS-I.) These and other certifications have enhanced her formal education from Bob Jones University.
Mrs. Young currently serves on the board of Apollo College in Mesa, Arizona and is a guest lecturer. Mrs. Young's skills include coding, auditing, practice management, medical billing, understanding insurances and business building. These skills have provided the basis for spreading the word on best billing practices. Mrs. Young has lectured around the United States and conducted webinars. Her proprietary subjects and lectures range from compliant billing, integrity, E&M coding, accounts receivable, raising the standards, practice management for better reimbursement, and OIG regulations in the medical field.
Mrs. Young has a heart for doctors. She desires for her client's to succeed as providers of medical care. To help her clients, Mrs. Young conducts chart audits to establish a baseline compliance that will enable the providers to move forward in a pro-active compliance practice. Mrs. Jacqueline Thelian is a Healthcare Consultant, Certified Professional Coder, Subject Matter Expert and sought after educator with over twenty years' experience in medical coding and business management. Her extensive experience includes physician practice management, coding/billing compliance and reimbursement issues and has taught extensively in Academic Medical Centers, The Chubb Institute, Hospitals, private physician practices and has conducted a variety of seminars for numerous Medical Societies.
She is also an AAPC Certified PMCC instructor for the PMCC Course (Professional Medical Coding Curriculum) and the AAPC Medical Coding Workshops. Mrs. Thelian is frequently contracted by many of the major Healthcare Law Firms for clients under Corporate Integrity Agreements (CIA's). In this capacity Mrs. Thelian is the Independent Review Organization (IRO) performing chart reviews following the Office of Inspector General's (OIG) guidelines and working with the law firm, client and government officials on the case. Mrs. Thelian also provides education to facilities and providers who are under CIA's (Corporate Integrity Agreements).
Working in concert with major Healthcare Law Firms on various cases, Mrs. Thelian has provided expert testimony on behalf of many physicians/providers both at Medicare Hearings and for the Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC). In several cases Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) have based their decisions/rulings solely on Mrs. Thelian's detailed unbiased reports and testimony, which ultimately resulted in favorable outcomes for the physician/provider.
Mrs. Thelian has developed curriculum for numerous specialty and facility topics. She has been a key presenter and a didactic author for the past several years in an ongoing project on OPPS/APC readiness for major Healthcare Facilities of New York City. In this capacity, Mrs. Thelian has developed training materials related to subjects such as Correct Coding for OPPS, Appropriate Designation of Evaluation and Management Level of Service, the accurate usage of modifiers, specialty seminars for Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Family Practice, OB-GYN, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, Physical Therapy, and General Surgery.
Mrs. Thelian is a requested speaker for third party billing companies and the pharmaceutical industry with regard to new medical technology. Darlene has been in the medical field for over 30 years and is currently the Director of the Medical Coding and Billing Program at Ultimate Medical Academy in Clearwater, Florida. As the Director, she have created and developed custom lecture materials and exercises to establish training that simulates the real working setting. She is also in charge of training and hiring of all instructors for our program and works closely with the on-line program reviewing and advising on curriculum.
Darlene has successfully owned and operated her own medical billing, coding, transcription, and consulting business from 1984 to 1992, employing more than 45 people and serving over 40 physicians and 10 hospitals in 6 different states. She also worked as a Practice Administrator for 12 years for an orthopedic practice after she sold her business in 1992. She also worked as a medical transcriptionist for a hospital in Dayton, Ohio for five years before starting her own business. Darlene has been in formal education for about 15 years.
Darlene has been a national consultant and speaker for Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross, Aetna and many more. She has also put on local and national seminars for various consulting companies throughout the past 30 years.
In 2004, Darlene was awarded the honor of “Faculty Member of the Year” by the Florida Association of Post Secondary Schools and Colleges. She is an approved AAPC Instructor and Proctor for the American Academy of Professional Coders and also a former member of the AAPC National Advisory Board.
